The Charente Maritime
The Charente Maritime stretches from the Poitevin marshes in the north to the outskirts of Libourne in the south. The department presents a vast seafront from the Ile de Ré to the Gironde estuary, which provides a wide range of magnificent panoramas and tourist high places focused on the sea and coastal walks.
The town of La Rochelle, prefecture of the department, is at the heart of the main tourist attraction of the region: Le Pertius d'Antioche. This strait includes the famous Charente Maritime islands : Ré, Oléron, as well as the smaller islands of Aix and Île Madame.
By crossing the Charente Maritime, you can also discover the natural reserve of the bay of Aiguillon or that of Moëze-Oléron, or the forest of Coubre further south, ensuring you pleasant strolls in full nature.
